Not easily. In an effort to further subsidize and destroy the love I have for the original Iron Chef (Ryōri no Tetsujin) my local supermarket has stocked this item:

WHY!?

The other day I was taking a tour through the interior of a nondescript windowless building, when all the sudden I was surrounded by a wall of sex toys. This is important to note because I thought I was at a YMCA. Boy, was I wrong!
Behold, the “KOCHI” - a marvel of sexual and technological wonderment. Get it? It is possible something got slightly lost in translation Kochi = Kuchi (くち), which means mouth.

Let’s break down the features of this space-age product shall we?
All this can be had for the very low-low one time price of $125.95. Hey with today’s economy that’s like two tanks of gas. Why drive somewhere when you can fuck a googly eyed prostetic head?
But all of this is nothing compared to the actual face of this abomination. JUST LOOK AT IT! Can’t you hear it yelling “HEEEEEY YOOOOU GUUUUYZ!” I don’t know about you, but I like the things that my penis potentially goes into not to look like a Goonies character.

This video was posted over at the official Nine Inch Nails youtube channel. If you’ve watched enough Japanese television it doesn’t really phase you, but it is interesting to see Japanese women break it down to choreographed Nine Inch Nails song.
It did however, remind me that I did a goofy little J-Pop remix of a Nine Inch Nails song (Me, I’m Not) so I cut some “typically wacky” Japanese video to make my own response to the above posted.

I’m chatting with some people at Anime USA about potentially doing a Panel this year. How would you, my dear listeners, feel about such a prospect? I could probably do something exciting, maybe about the podcasting process, but I think Tee Morris may already have that well covered. Or it could be a showcase of the weird, Japanese and macabre. (Ok, maybe not so much that last one.)
I think I willl ask this question in greater detail in the next coming podcast. Stay tuned. Oh and on an unrelated note: I’ve been using this great little wordpress plug in called “photo dropper” which searches creative commons licensed images and makes me seem more interesting than I am!

As it turns out, the highly original album is using easily identifiable GarageBand loops. Check the Video Podcast for some comparisons. Edit: youtube link, please rate!

I have quickie podcast in the pipes that should be out soon (next week?) and then I still have all the loveliness from the Sakura Matsuri to edit. Stay tuned.

]]>But, I don’t think that’s a problem. So onto the real post.
Hi guys! A new podcast from Northern Virginia Anime With Ataru should be coming soon. I also have a guest podcast coming down the pipe, so sit tight I know you guys are itching for new content.
-Ataru
Since all my content is still actively being aggregated and stolen without attribution, I thought I would share a little big more about what’s happening here.
Splogs are essentially content and link farms which exist to drive search engine traffic and well steal your content to make money.
I’ve already gotten the attention my current “Splogger” and I’m awaiting him/her to stop aggregating my posts without my permission or attribution. Interestingly my posts dealing with the theft of my content have been removed, but older ones have not.
A more in depth read can be found over at Devtopics.com - Spam Blogs and Stolen Content.
There is a lot you can do to prevent other people from stealing your content and profiting off of your hard work. You can even contribute to a database of splogs at splogspot.com which is ever growing at a staggering rate. (Though at time of this post, I was unable to successfully add a splog due to a captcha issue)
Anyway, despite the fact this post will likely be shamefully ripped off as well, I figured I’d share this information for those who may end-up in the same boat.

March 29 Update:
My two last posts appeared on anime-2000.com for about a day. Amusingly this post sat on his site until this morning. They’ve been removed now.
]]>The other day I was looking at my site stats and I noticed a ridiculous amount of traffic coming from one domain. At first, I thought “great, someone must be really promoting the podcast.”How naive of me.
When I went to the site, what I found was a bit of a surprise - someone had posted all my blog content as their own! Copy and pasted every-single-mutha-fucking-post from atarumoroboshi.com and posted it. And leeching all my images to boot! What nerve, and talk about lazy, they kept my in line signature on all my posts.

Being the savvy individual I am, I gave this guy the benefit of the doubt. A quick whois turns up a newly registered domain this month to with the not-so-awesome GoDaddy and with hosting from a company called asmallorange (yeah, I haven’t heard of them either).
I sent him a nice email, asking him to remove the posts, and kindly asked him to not leech my images. I even politely suggested that maybe he was testing out his new blog and somehow “mistakenly” stole my posts and images. A week passed, and with no response, my patience wore thin.
Sadly, I had to modify my .htaccess file to prevent image leeching. (Sorry guys! I didn’t really want to.) Many thanks to Attack of the Gamer who had a quick and concise write up on how to modify the .htaccess file. I tried to re-direct the leechers to an image, but it seems I’m doing something wrong. Here it for giggles, maybe I’ll get it working later.

Anyway, while I can prevent him from stealing my bandwidth, this guy has also ripped of posts from Ani-One.com and the Hardcore Anime Podcast, and to date my content disingenuously sits on his site, sans my images.
NOTE: IF YOU ARE READING THIS POST ON ANY OTHER BLOG OTHER THEN WWW.ATARUMOROBOSHI.COM IT IS NOT AUTHORIZED BY ME (ATARU) THE CONTENT CREATOR
UPDATE: THIS POST HAS NOW BEEN SHAMELESSLY STOLEN AND POSTED.
UPDATE 2: AFTER THIS POST WAS SHAMELESSLY STOLEN AND POSTED, IT WAS THEN REMOVED - MY OTHER POSTS STILL REMAIN.

I’ve had a couple people ask me about the status of the podcast, so I figured I’d update, and answer some questions.
Keep the comments coming, I’ll try to keep the posts coming.

]]>First of all, Merry Fucking Christmas. If you are reading this on Christmas, you probably need a hug. Sorry, I can’t hug you. I’m out of state, sequestered in the basement of my parents home, writing my dim candle light. (Which is admittedly pointless.)
Some important podcasty stuff!
1) A podcast will make it out this week. It’s not a traditional podcast, but I think you guys will enjoy it. I had hoped to have it out this morning, but alas, it was a larger undertaking then I had originally anticipated, which requires additional editing and recording. I Don’t think you’ll be disappointed though.
2) Guests: Well this one isn’t working out exactly like I planned. Alot of people enthusiastically said they’d love to come on the podcast but then changed their minds and went into the witness protection program as soon as I attempted to take them up on the offer. And as much as I just want to have some awesome random fans on my podcast, I’m not sure that interesting to listeners… You know what, fuck it, if you listen to the podcast and you feel you have something to contribute, maybe you want to do a head-to-head review of an anime with me? Contact me, and lets see what you’re made of. (Please be aware that you may be edited mercilessly in post-production!)
3) Other projects: I’m working on a sister site, which will produce serialized science fiction/sci fi podcasts. It’s nowhere near ready, but in the next six months I’ll have to split my time between both projects. Looking to launch the project website officially in the summer. More to come as it is developed. If you feel its been too long without an episode of Northern Virginia Anime With Ataru - shoot me a line, put a fire under my ass and I’ll make something.
4) I’m way behind on my anime watching - I need some quick good recommendations. There was one that Konaka Chiaki was involved with that I wanted to see, but I can’t recall its name. -_- What are the kids talking about these days? If you don’t post, I’ll just review Ebichu every damn episode.
Now go, spend time with your family and resent them because you could be watching anime instead!
-Ataru
]]>As for the promo, I appear as Amy Rose (at 0:59 seconds) looking all hip, as I greet someone off screen and I appea as a non-descript Ninja at the Pirates vs Ninjas Dance-off.
]]>Ok, so by now you are going “What does this have to with Anime, Ataru?”
Sadly, I don’t have time right now to do a ‘real’ remix - but I wanted to share with you my quick and dirty remix featuring the closing to Love Love? It just sorta happened.
Give me some feedback! Maybe I’ll do some more.

]]>But now, I can begin to appreciate Roger Smith on an even higher level. How is that possible you ask? Many may recall Gargoyles, a real kick-ass animated television show that aired on the Disney Afternoon in the mid-nineties. Gargoyles set itself apart by actually attempting an intelligent contiguous story line. While the intended core audience was children the show had some complex story lines about time travel and causality. (See Vows)
So imagine my girlish delight when I was watching the first episode of season 2 of Big O, Roger the Wanderer. Roger Smith finds himself shuffling in the past, in the old Paradigm City, full and bustling with people.

And who do we see but these three guys!

In case you didn’t recognize them, that’s Broadway, Lexington, and Brooklyn. Though Broadway seems to have stolen Goliath’s Jaw.

/End Geek Transmission
Addendum: I will be attending The Gathering of the Gargoyles in 2008.

]]>This isn’t even a gay/girly thing. Ataru said in the podcast that androgynous male characters make him feel funny inside. Actually on several occasions he mentioned his confusions about the Bishie’s. (Hmm, I wonder if he’s not telling us something.) Don’t let that prettiness fool you. Some of these characters hide deep, dark secrets. They have commitment issues, abandonment issues, anger issues and could quite possibly be the worst lay ever.
So, without further inane bantering:

Yeah, he’s cute and all, but what a little emo baby. If Shinji had a myspace, he’d probably comb his bangs over his eyes, his playlist would feature My Chemical Romance, and he would post bulletins about his crappy poetry. Oh, heres an example now:
Father Why? By: Shinji Ikari
Dark, Darky, Darkness.
My soul it bleeds Darkness.
By the way, Darkness.
I bet he even cries in bed. “Waaaah, I’ve got daddy issues.” Geez, what a whiny little bitch.

I suppose this could bring a whole new meaning to the term “doggie style.” Seriously, another chest full of body hair, and I might as well suit up for some R&R with Lassie. While the prospect of being domineering over Inuyasha is slightly appealing (Sit! Inuyasha Sit!) he is way too emotionally abusive for my taste. Makes you feel real sorry for Kagome, doesn’t it?

OK. So not a bishonen. But, I’ll admit, he’d probably be really frisky and energetic in bed. A guy like Nin-nin is horny all the time and I’m not sure if I want to invest in the costly commitment of a life-time supply of KY. Everything would be chapped. Does anyone really want know what’s behind his mask? 10 bucks says it would be nothing but tentacles. Besides, midget sex is just wrong (for me!)
He does have that handsome, rugged good look thing going for him, but that metal arm worries me. Does he know what it means to be gentle? That thing is going to pinch…something. I’d rather not risk it. Maybe he could take it off? Well, even if he did, then we’d be talking nub sex, and that’s….Let’s not get into that.
I can hear his battle call now: “Only one shall be the dominant, I have trained! My victory is assured!” Translation: “I am selfish in bed! You shall finish up on your own! Go make me a sammich!” At this rate, I’ll have to use my Call of the Haunted trap card just to get what I want. I know you’re the “King of all Games,” but would it hurt for you to reciprocate in the sack?
Zaraki: “So, Do you want the eye patch on or off?”
Me (Whimpering): “Umm…on?”
Zaraki: “Well, too damn bad.”
*insert sounds of screams*
(Ed. note: Again, It pains me to link a viz site. Sorry guysx2!)

That pompadour…My god, that pompadour! That is all.

How would this work exactly? I suppose I could stand inside of him? Would I need a metal detector to determine if he was aroused? Wait, what? He’s underage? Shit, never mind. Time to call robo-cop for a booty call. He doesn’t just keep a gun in his leg if you know what I mean.

Listen possible suitors, being whiny is not sexy. As such, we are going to have some problems. That’s right, I’ll give you something to cry about. Sasuke wouldn’t be able to adequately meet my needs, he would probably be too busy going on about his undying love for his brother anyway. (or whatever his problem is). Alas, if Shinji (see #10) had a headband, thy name would be Sasuke.
Not just because he’d probably kill me immediately afterwards (by writing “STD” in his notebook), but because, Light always has his Death Note, and I don’t want to take the chance of touching it. Seeing a lumbering googly-eyed shinigami watching me in action would be an instant downer. I’ll bring apples just in case. (Ed. note: It pains me to link to the viz death note site. Sorry guys!)
Who wouldn’t you touch with a ten foot pole?

]]>You’re probably wondering who the hell I am, and what I’m doing here. See, Ataru was tinkering with the idea of getting some guest columnists on his site. He wanted to try to diversify his audience as much as possible, so he tried to find a female who would come in and write a article or two. However, since there are no women on the internet, he had to settle for the next best thing: A really gay nerd.
Don’t believe me? Damn you people on the internet with your non-believing-ness. Fine, here is all the proof you need. Here I can be seen welcoming our new Popsicle overlords.
Glad we could share that moment. Anyway, it’s probably a good idea let people know a little about myself. I am an otaku. I don’t watch anime nearly as much as I should, but I read manga like it’s my Bible. For the record, I read Naruto before it became popular with 5-year olds, and it’s still a guilty pleasure. Yu Yu Hakusho popped my anime cherry and I still say Digimon is better then Pokemon. I want Bleach to end, so Tite Kubo can finish Zombie Powder. Lastly, I think we all have a little Osaka in all of us. If you know what the hell I’m talking about we’ll get along great. If not, why the hell are you on an anime podcast site? A question, I too, may soon be asking myself.
If you want to learn more about me, you can visit your local library, it is an excellent resource where you can learn important things about the past and present. For example did you know the leatherback turtle is the largest of all living turtles? And it’s the only species in the genus Dermochelys?!

For further reading please go to my myspace page. It has my bio, and I blog there almost daily.

]]>It’s the most important meal of the day, and as such, I ventured over to the hotel continental breakfast buffet. I deftly navigated my way past a fourteen year old Naruto and Sasuke. Upon my entrance , I was visually assaulted with a bemused cross-section of Hotel Staff and non congoing guests. One business man in particular, fresh off a plane, with his bags still in tow walked into the dining area only to grimace and and do an about face. “Look, I just want to sit by myself!” sums his sentiment up well. So obligingly, the hostess sat him next to the guy who was completely painted blue.
Food was the standard affair, though I still don’t entirely understand this whole ‘I’m going to eat while wearing the very delicate and one-of-a-kind costume you worked on for six months’ thing. Look, I like your costume, but please, no need to bring your nineteen foot glittery and expansive entourage of clay deities, to hang from your shoulder as you dine. I half hope one of those little guys falls down into your cream of wheat.
As many of you know, I generally don’t go to panels. It’s not that I don’t want to go, as there were many interesting panels and speakers. I just don’t end up going, unless a serendipitous turn of events pushes me to down into a seat. Actually, I wanted to go to Ghost In The Shell: A Discussion but after dropping over one-hundred dollars on sushi and sake, it seemed wise to retire to something less interactive. (Like the bathroom.)
Eventually, I will have some sort of panel or table at one of these cons, and I fear no-one will care to stop by because, well, panels are boring! Let us begrudgingly cross that bridge next year.
Let me get it out of the way: I’m a sucker. I bought a twenty dollar grab bag from the Anime Sekai booth. I ended up with a Death Note fan, Fruits Basket mouse pad, a deck of cards from some random anime, a mini Godzilla key chain, and an Evangelion figure. All of which, I can use practically on a day-to-day basis. Well worth twenty dollars, in my opinion! -_-*
I did score an awesome Famicom Music Compilation which contains one of the most interesting arrangements of the Super Mario theme I’ve heard to date. I was drawn towards the cd because of it’s clean yet enticing packaging. Doesn’t it just make you want to buy it?

I also wish to share with you one of the worst Hentai DVD covers I have even seen in my dear life. How can you go wrong with a title like Milk Money? Oh, here’s how.
The air in the game room was thick and wrought with a distinct spritz of bawls and unwashed male testicle (not to be confused with the rare and oft sought female testicle.) With the assistance of an outside vendor Anime USA pulled all the stops this year with the next gen systems and flat screen televisions. Sadly, missing from the game room were several dance and rhythm game staples (including any kind of actual arcade unit) that should be at every convention. In the Groove was to make an appearance, but in an apparent last minute foible by a truck rental company the arcade machine could not make an appearance. Some games from previous years that were missing in action: Para Para Paradise and Taiko no Tatsujin.
The Artists Alley wasn’t as centrally located as it had been at Tyson’s corner, and inevitably there were artists who sat in dark obscure corners. I had a chance to sit down at one such obfuscated table with Cosmos and Hunter from Cosmos Studios. Since no one was buying anything from them, I took the opportunity to make myself comfortable behind there table, where I began attempting to create free hand drawings and sell bookmarks! By the nights end I had somehow managed to sell my unfinished drawing to a nice woman who had already purchased three bookmarks an hour earlier. Want to know the best way to sell a bookmark?
Ataru: ‘Excuse me sir! Do you read books?’
Confused Patron: ‘Why yes! Yes I do!’
Ataru: ‘Me too! But I always would loose my spot, and if I lost my spot, I’d have to start the book all over again, I’m still reading Moby Dick. This is where the new state-of-the art bookmark technology comes into play!’
*Ataru Picks up book and places bookmark at page 480*
Ataru: ‘Oh no! I’ve lost my page, however will I find it? Was it page 210? No. It was 316? Curse this dangerous dystopic future! Oh here it is, page 480.’
Confused Patron: ‘I’ll take eight!’
In the afternoon I donned my increasingly infamous Amy Rose costume. I met up with Cream and we walked the circuit confidently. Without peripheral vision. This was the fourth time I wore Amy, and it seems I’m pretty easy to pick out. I was constantly lost in a sea of people shouting “AMY.” I think the gig is up though. Enough people were yelling “There’s a dude in there!” to soften the surprise of a man being under the suit. I received many comments this time around. Most notable were, “Wow, it must be hot in there!” (No Shit!) and my favorite “You are so Warm!” (Thank you?)
Fellow podcaster Tyler from Rangercast caught up with me while I was in costume and wanted to provide his listeners with an update of “That guy in the Amy Costume from Katsucon.” As usual, I ran at the mouth, and I can’t even remember what I said. Look for his Anime USA podcast sometime soon, hopefully, I’ll make the cut.
Despite going analog and lo-fi I’ve got some great audio which I hope to dump and edit this week. I hope to have it out and edited shortly after Thanksgiving. Until then, tide your hunger by downloading last years Anime USA podcast.
Please send any pictures and or video you’d like to share with me at Ataru_@_Atarumoroboshi_.com

]]>Yes, I know. It’s Saturday, and you are all wondering where the hell I was yesterday. Well, let me tell you. I didn’t feel like paying 10 dollars to get internet access in my hotel room. Cheap Bastids!
Last week, I stayed in a nice waterfront Hilton in North Carolina. It was quaint, going through some renovations, and despite drunk marines having fist fights at 3:15 am on a Sunday morning outside my door, I HAD FREE INTERNET!
So again, apologies.
Within 10 minutes of arrival, before I could check in and in true Anime Convention style the dreaded DRAMA Monster (also known by some scientists of ‘craziess bulshiticus’) ran over birthed a steaming death baby at my feet. “Oh what a fun weekend this is going to be” I thought.
I checked in, and quickly got to doing some hand held recording. Got some great interviews, and talked with some great people. More on that later though.
Anime USA is in a new hotel this year, and frankly, I hate the Crystal City location. Not the hotel itself (which suffers from the usual con deficiencies - like being stuck in elevator hell!) but the parking, driving, and space situation. This Hyatt location only offers valet parking for their guests. In a packed D.C. Suburb, parking is limited, and if you aren’t a hotel guest that means you get to pay 30 dollars a day to park somewhere else! If you are like me and freak out about people driving your car, and further more stealing your pennies from the ashtray then you’ll understand how quickly and gingerly I handed my keys over to the valet.
I never do panels, mostly because I’m walking around. Almost entirely by accident I walked by Tee Moriss’ panel, and found myself sitting, both entertained and informed for the better part of an hour. Tee Morris is a science fiction/fantasy writer, who interestingly enough is probably most well known for his Podcasting for Dummies Book. I spoke to Tee in passing last year, a mentioned that I was beginning a podcast (this one!) He had nothing but words of encouragement and he was happy to provide some new creative inspiration and drive to some side project I have brewing.
I’ll admit it, I haven’t read any of his books (not even his podcasting books, though funnily enough, he is releasing a book for ‘advanced users’ which suggests the use of my personal and current favorite mic the AKG Perception 200 ) It was a great panel, I also met and spoke with other podcasters who share some valuable information. If Tee’s presence as a speaker contains the same amount of energy and humor as his books do, then I think I’ll be in for a treat when I find some time to sit down and read.
The Pirates Vs Ninjas Dance Off was originally an unofficial ‘in-the-hallways’ event at Otakon 2006 by some of the people at cosplay.com Since then it has been parlayed into an officially sanctioned con event across the Virginia area which garners enough attention to fill a main events room. I had NO plans to be involved in this when Reptile himself appeared in an elevator door, and in his slithery voice asked me if I too was going to the dance off to represent the ninja nation?!
The rest as they say is “uneasy coercion, followed by crying.”
Before I knew what I was doing, I was dance battling against the pirate team in a room full of about 200 people. I’ll boast here for a second and say I single handedly won the second round for the ninjas
At one point an opposing pirate lost his shirt to reveal his chiseled physic and six pack abs. Not one to be outdone, I quickly responded by exposing my doughy, hairy, non-chilsed body to a room a screaming fan girls (and some boys?)
But alas, in the end, the Pirates were victorious. So perhaps next year, when this certain ninja may loose his pants. Anyone who has pictures or video of the event SEND IT TO ME!
Did anyone else get the distinct impression that you had just walked into your grandmothers basement? The dealer room seemed to have the requisite stations, though there was an overabundance of Yaoi and associated wooden paddle. There was one dealer in particular I did like, that had almost exclusively Visual Kei merchandise. Much of it I wanted, such as a couple Merry albums.
Domestic and Import games were showing pretty strong but none of it was reasonably priced. For the last time, a ps2 Best Hits is a re-release (ala greatest hits) in Japan. It should not sell for 70 dollars USD. The highest Japanese street price for these games 20 dollars, though I’ve seen them for as cheap as 15. Out in a strong force was ‘old-school’ merchandise of all kinds. One vendor, Asylum Anime had all kinda of great old Rumiko Takahashi, and Urusei Yatsura posters.
I’m going to make a second pass on the dealers room today and see what else I can find.
More to come! -Ataru
]]>Seeing as I actually have a hotel room this year, I’ll be able to connect to the internet on a somewhat regular basis. What does this mean you ask? (What? You didn’t ask?) It means I’ll be posting through until Sunday!
Stay tuned, I have treats in store, and you wont want to miss it. You may cringe at times, you might even want to look away, but trust me. It’s worth it! Think of my live blogging attempts as a form of death torture.
